Bowerdean and Totteridge Neighbourhood Action Group

The Bowerdean and Totteridge Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) has been formed following a public meeting held at Highworth Combined School on 15th October 2007 and attended by over 100 people. Neighbourhood Action Groups, with an emphasis on action, are being set up all over the country. They bring together members of the community, local Councillors, Council Officers and Police in a forum to work together to address issues that affect people’s enjoyment of life in their local community.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Anti-social behaviour is the second priority raised by local resident's.
**WE ARE TARGETING THIS PRIORITY NOW**
AUGUST 2008
TELL US WHERE YOU ARE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS
Anti-social behaviour encompasses a wide range of issues from crime and serious nuisance to less severe but frequent and annoying behaviour. Anti-social behaviour is defined as "behaviour which is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not in the same household as the perpetrator". It also includes "fear of crime or concern for public safety, public disorder or public nuisance".

If anti-social behaviour is affecting you, the NAG would like to hear from you. Areas of concern already raised by you, the public of Bowerdean & Totteridge, include St Hugh's Avenue, Underwood Park and Windrush Drive. Are these ares of concern to you and why? Where else should the NAG and its partners focus their attention....

Areas of concern raised at the public consultation include:

Bowerdean Road area:
* Underwood Park
* gangs of youths
* youths in parks
* litter
* threatening behaviour from yobs
* under age drinking
* youths hanging around shops (Arnison Parade)
* loitering
* bin bags/messy bins

Totteridge Road:
* noisy drunks returning home from town centre
* drunken loiterers

Underwood Road:
* gatherings of youths
* 'scabby' park
* racket from park
* park area often has yobs
* litter
* fly-tipping

St Hughs Avenue:
* kids being loud and swearing
* smoking and drinking
* littering

Windrush Drive:
* kids outside til late drinking and doing drugs

Walton Drive:
* drunkeness
* spitting

Which is the worst area? Why?

Are there enough youth facilities? Many of you think there are not enough safe places for the kids to play?

What would you like the youths to do? What do the youths want to do?

What can be done to improve Underwood Park/Bowerdean Rec?

Is anyone in particular causing problems?

Are the youths all yobs or is this just the perception/fear of large, noisy groups?

Help us help you....

I am concerned regarding the graffiti in the area and the vandalised bus shelters. Also underage youths gathering at the entrance to Kingswood dinking and harassingdog walkers.

A look should be taken at the gangs of younger Asians coming out of Townsfield house mosque (by the iron duke pub) shouting racial abuse at white people passing whilst the elders look on and do nothing. The PCSO's work at totally the wrong time in this area they only ever seem to patrol during office hours even though the abuse/crime/speeding cars crawl out of the woodwork at 5pm+
